Yamaha EF7200DE Generator

Description

Yamaha EF7200DE

In short, the Yamaha EF7200DE is a portable generator adequately designed for:

  • RV travellers who wish to upgrade their experience to another level
  • People occasionally participating in sporting competitions, open-air performances and outdoor festivals
  • Food truck owners who want to ensure that their business is fully self-contained and does not rely on potentially unreliable external power
  • Homeowners who want to be able to use the most necessary devices in their household, even during a blackout
  • Professionals in need of safely powering high-intensity work or lighting equipment

Over the following sections, you'll uncover its power characteristics, the selection of outlets it offers, its overall portability, and the supplementary features it includes.

The Yamaha EF7200DE

Yamaha EF7200DE is equipped with a 358 cc Yamaha MZ360 OHV 4-stroke engine, running on gasoline and providing 120/240V, boasting a running wattage of 6,000W alongside a starting wattage of 7,200W.

The generator, rated for a noise of 74.5 dBA (just slightly more noisy than a shower), provides flexibility in starting, offering both a simple traditional pull-start mechanism and a hassle-free and practical electric starter (battery included).

Featuring a 6.9 gallons fuel tank, the EF7200DE provides continuous power for around 12 hours at 50% load on a full tank (fuel consumption around 0.58 GPH).

The quite high THD (<7%) of the EF7200DE makes it unsuitable for powering sensitive electronic devices.

The control panel features 6 AC outlets as follow

20V 30A (L5-30R) receptacle120/240V 30A (L14-30R) receptacle

Even though this Yamaha generator isn't quite RV Ready, its L5-30R receptacle allows an easy RV connection via an L5-30P to TT-30R adaptor. Besides, the EF7200DE's twist-lock L14-30R receptacle makes it transfer switch ready, enabling hassle-free connection to your breaker box for powering your home during outages.

With a size of L29.1 x W29 x H31.5 in, the Yamaha EF7200DE features an open frame design, providing stability and simplified maintenance access to components, enhancing air circulation. The featured design is ideal for the outdoors and all tough environments.

Since the generator weighs 245.7 lbs, it will be incredibly difficult to manually lift it and transport it, even though it is technically considered to 'be portable' (in the sense that it is movable). Still, once it is on the ground, its wheel kit and its folding handle can easily solve the issue of low mobility and allow for easy relocation of the device.

Further safety during transport, loading and unloading of the device is provided by a lift hook, which is placed on the top of the generator's frame.

The EF7200DE's control panel

Enhancing monitoring capabilities, the EF7200DE features a digital data center within its control panel, furnishing essential details on the lifetime run hours and voltage for tracking activity and status.

In addition to this info, a light indicator on the device will signal if its oil levels are insufficient.

The inclusion of a built-in fuel gauge in the generator streamlines gas level checks for quick and convenient assessments.

Regarding security, the generator comes with an overload protection (circuit breaker) and an automatic low oil shut-off (Oil Watch system), providing peace of mind during operation.

Yamaha's Oil Watch warning system gives you an extra peace of mind. This feature enhances long-term durability by preventing engine damage and costly repairs. Once the oil begins to run low, the generator automatically shuts off and cannot be re-started until oil is added.

It also includes a carbon monoxide sensor. This sensor is designed to monitor the level of carbon monoxide present during the generator's operation. If the generator is positioned incorrectly and carbon monoxide levels rise to an unsafe level, the generator will automatically shut down.

Besides the usual set of documentation and owner's manual(opens in a new tab) to get you promptly started, Yamaha also included a tool kit in the EF7200DE's packaging.
